Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was released in November of last year and has received multiple major updates that have improved the game tremendously. However, players on all platforms have suffered an issue with the footstep audio since release that occasionally does not work and leads to irregular gameplay experiences. The developers have addressed this issue multiple times and have released updates to improve the footstep audio.

However, some players still find it troublesome. There are various ways to improve the footstep audio in Warzone 2 that this article will cover.

How to fix the footstep audio in Warzone 2?

There can be several reasons why the footstep audio can be non-existential in-game. Using the best settings, better peripherals, third-party audio software, improved audio equalization, and other ways, the audio can be improved, helping you judge the exact position of enemy players accurately.

1) Tweak in-game audio settings

The following in-game settings will output the footstep audio more clearly.

  • Audio Mix: Headphones Bass Boost
  • Master Volume: 65
  • Music Volume: 0
  • Dialogue Volume: 20
  • Effects Volume: 100
  • Hit Marker Volume: 30
  • Mono Audio: Off
  • Last Words Voice Chat: Off
  • Proximity Chat: Off
  • Juggernaut Music: Off
  • Hitmarker Sound Effects: Classic
  • Reduce Tinnitus Sound: On

Setting the audio mix to "Headphones Bass Boost" will increase the footstep audio in Warzone 2 as this setting boosts the low frequencies in the audio queue, which is what footsteps fall under. Next, turning off the music and lowering the Dialogue and Hit Marker volumes will help filter out the footstep audio.

Furthermore, turning off all other audio queues that can stifle footstep audio will help, including Last Words Voice Chat, Proximity Chat, and Juggernaut Music.

Mono audio must be turned off as it causes both the left and right sides of your equipment to output the same audio, removing directional audio completely.

2) Third-party audio equalizer

If you have third-party audio software or headphones that can be tweaked using supported software, the audio equalizer can help improve the footstep audio in Warzone 2 marginally. Refer to the attached image above to accordingly adjust each frequency, although you can also trial and error to find the settings that work best for your audio equipment.

3) Re-install audio drivers

Sometimes, the audio drivers of Windows can become corrupted, causing in-game audio to be irregular and broken. Re-installing the drivers is an effective way to fix such issues. However, this method only works for players on the PC platform.

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager
  • Open "Sound, video and game controllers"
  • Right-click on your audio device, click on properties, select the "Drivers" tab, and click uninstall
  • Reboot your PC, and the same audio driver will be re-installed automatically

If none of the aforementioned fixes work, you can always invest in better audio equipment, specifically gaming headphones which are manufactured to output multiple audio queues at once. Such devices allow players to hear the faintest of sounds clearly in the middle of a battleground.
